Holiday Benefit Show

On Friday, December 2nd at 7:00 pm a community Holiday Show will be presented at Parkland Magnet High School to benefit the Holiday Assistance Projects for “children in care” and The Relatives as Parents Program, RAPP, Coordinated by the Forsyth County Department of Social Services Family and Children’s Services Division. It is a free concert, with donations accepted to support the Holiday Assistance Projects.

Featured performers will be the ladies of Downtown Sound who will perform a range of songs including Carol Of The Bells, Jingle Bell Rock, a fun version of Christmas Chopstix, plus several others. They have performed widely in the past three years and have enjoyed several joint performances with the men of Triad Harmony Express.

Several outstanding student groups will perform. Anne Saxon directs the Central Carolina Children’s Chorus which is a multi-leveled, auditioned choir program for singers ages 6-18 from Winston-Salem and surrounding areas. A partner with the Music and Arts Ministry of Centenary United Methodist Church, and an educational outreach of Bel Canto Chorus, the chorus has toured extensively and performed for local, state, and international events.

The Parkland Magnet High School Ensemble is directed by Jonathan Sidden. This ensemble was formed in 1985 and has performed throughout the United States and Canada. In 2008 they sang at a festival in conjunction with the Presidential Inauguration. They have consistently received Superior ratings at NCMEA State Choral Festivals.

Carol Earnhardt is in her fourteenth year as director of the Glenn High School Concert Choir. It is one of two auditioned choirs at the school. They have consistently received Superior ratings at state and national choral festivals and competitions. Among honors earned have been being named MEGA-FEST National Champion at the 2003 North American Choral Festival in Virginia Beach, being the feature choir in 2008 at the Carnegie Hall High School Choral Festival, and being invited to perform a joint concert with the Bel Canto professional choir of Greensboro in 2009.

A special appearance will be made by the men of Triad Harmony Express Christmas Quartet. They will perform several familiar carols and holiday songs, plus a few that will encourage sing-along participation by the audience. There is sure to be something to enjoy by everyone in attendance.
