On the morning of October 29, Deputy K. Haggard, was working extra-duty at the Waffle House, located on Hanes Mill Rd., Winston-Salem. While inside the restaurant, Deputy Haggard heard a female “scream for help.” Deputy Haggard responded to the female’s table and observed that her husband was unconscious and unresponsive. Deputy Haggard quickly recognized that the male was not breathing nor could a pulse be detected.

Deputy Haggard summoned Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to respond and immediately placed the male on the floor. Deputy Haggard began two cycles of CPR before the male regained a pulse and respirations. While waiting for the arrival of EMS, the male stopped breathing a second time. The male did not regain consciousness and was transported to the hospital by EMS.

The male subject did regain consciousness after further treatment and as of the date of this submission, he is recuperating in the hospital. If not for the efforts displayed by both Deputy Haggard and Deputy Steen, the person would most likely not be alive today.
