Ms. Coburn is a Senior Office Assistant assigned to the Sex Offender Registry Unit (SORU). Ms. Coburn has been instrumental in validating offender files, maintaining offender records with the State Bureau of Investigation, and communicating with offenders over the phone, in person, and by electronic means. Ms. Coburn has exemplified what a Sheriff’s office employee stands for in many ways. Ms. Coburn assisted in the efforts to reduce the number of resources needed to track, communicate, and maintain the homeless sex offender population. This year, for the first time, the entire homeless population attached to the SORU was accounted for throughout the cold winter months. Ms. Coburn took the initiative to contact area businesses to see if they could provide some of the necessities that many of us take for granted like soap, shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, and toothbrushes. Once collected, Ms. Coburn packed the items together, along with crackers, water, and candy. Many of the offenders are grateful Ms. Coburn is working in the SORU because she truly cares. Ms. Coburn’s kind smile, cheerful demeanor, and listening skills may be the only positive interaction they had that day. This type of relationship is crucial since it can help identify potential problems before they need to be addressed by the legal system. Ms. Coburn goes far above what is required by her job duties and is a valuable asset to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of this county.
