Forsyth County 911 accepts emergency calls for medical services and fire response across all Forsyth County. We dispatch fire resources from the Winston-Salem Fire Department, Kernersville Fire Department and Volunteer Fire Departments around the county. We are physically located in the Public Safety Center Complex building at 301 North Church Street. Our 35-member team answers calls and dispatches services around the clock, every day of the year.
 
                     
                    Telecommunicators must:
                            
                            Be at least 18 years of age 
                            Be a high school graduate or have an equivalency certificate
                            Be of good moral character as determined through a thorough background investigation
                            Have the ability to work rotating shifts that include weekends, nights and holidays
                            Must complete an intensive training program within the first six months
                            Have considerable knowledge of the locations and capabilities of available fire, rescue, and emergency medical units
                            Have the ability to communicate effectively emergency medical dispatch and fire dispatch protocols
                            Have the ability to hear and speak clearly and remain calm during emergency situations
                            Have the ability to make quick decisions in handling emergency situations
                            Have the ability follow standard operating procedures and guidelines
                            Have the ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees
                            Preferred: One year expereince in Telecommunications or 2 years experience in a Public Safety field
                           
Telecommunicators are responsible for:
                            Collecting information and enter it into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)
                            Answering emergency phone calls and non-emergency calls
  
                            Dispatching appropriate assistance (fire, rescue, ambulance)
                            Gaining assitance and resources from other agencies as necessary
